6G Research Project "KOMSENS-6G" Approved by the BMBF

The collaborative project KOMSENS-6G focuses on integrating sensor technology into 6G communication systems. The IMW contributes to the project by realizing base station antenna arrays for joint communication and sensing scenarios based on multi-mode multi-port antennas (M³PA). One of the current challenges in implementing a joint communication and sensing system is the direct coupling between transmit and receive arrays when both arrays are co-located. The IMW aims to tackle this problem by using M³PA which offer highly isolated antenna ports on the same physical aperture, enabling a high antenna port density while offering high configuarbility. The research project is funded until November 2025 with a total funding volume of 15.55 million euros.
