The module provides a comprehensive field theoretical overview of the concept of electromagnetic radiation. This is followed by a discussion of the descriptive variables for antennas. Basic types of antennas are analytically extracted from the general theoretical model and characterized in terms of their properties. After completion of the treatment of individual antennas, the model is extended to group antennas. The topics covered are:

  • Theory of electromagnetic radiation
  • Antenna parameters
  • Linear antennas and related antenna concepts
  • Group antennas
  • Beamforming and beamshaping
